With a foundation on research and investigation, the first phase of City Cortex has encouraged an approximation between the participants and the raw material the programme proposes to use: cork. The invited architects and designers had the opportunity to immerse themselves in the universe of this highly sustainable raw material, learning about its properties, natural characteristics and the diversity of uses it has today and witnessing how it is transformed, applied and reused in Corticeira Amorim’s manufacturing units.
In a second stage, the group of participants has focused on the conceptualisation and design of projects, proposing – through the use and application of cork – ways of stimulating the public space, in accordance with the briefing of the City Cortex programme.
The projects are currently under a prototyping, testing and production phase, ready to be seen and experienced in September when they will be presented to the public.
